LPU Manila Hosted First Open LMS User Group Community Session

The Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila hosted the first Open LMS User Group Community Session on May 24, 2023 at the Mini Theatre. The event was attended both in-person and online via Zoom by the various educational and private institutions. Ms. Devy M. Galang, Director, Teaching and Learning Innovation Center of LPU-Manila welcomed the participants. Dr. Dave E. Marcial, Lead, Open LMS User Community Group and Director of Silliman Online University Learning facilitated the workshop. The session’s program included Competency Management, Groups & Groupings, Personalized Learning Designer, and Digital Badges.

Dr. Marites Fontanilla of St. Paul University – Quezon City presented on Competency Management. Her presentation underlined the need of aligning course content and activities with specific learning objectives to ensure students obtain the necessary information and skills. Mr. Darwin Robert A. Gutierrez and Mr. Melvin M. Grencio of LPU-Manila on the other hand, discussed the topic Groups and Groupings. They discussed how to use groupings to organize groups into larger subsets depending on criteria such as course sections and specializations.

Likewise, Mr. Fredlie Bucog and Mr. Jan Cynth Palama of Silliman University discussed the topic Personalized Learning Designer. Their discussion emphasized the importance of differentiated instruction and how the Personalized Learning Designer supports it. Finally, Engr. Ma. Lea Martinez of San Beda College-Alabang shared the use of Digital Badges. Her presentation emphasized the positive influence of digital badges on student motivation and the development of a recognition culture.
