TOURIST SATISFACTION AND PLACE ATTACHMENT IN THE HERITAGE SITES IN INTRAMUROS MANILA

Abstract:

Intramuros, Manila comprises historical districts that lasted for centuries that are surrounded by fortifications. Because of this, it is considered one of the most visited heritage sites in the country. Millions of visitors are expected to visit the site yearly. Thus, investigating the visitors’ level of satisfaction and place attachment in the Intramuros was conducted. Accordingly, it was found that the visitors were highly satisfied with the safety measures. Further, it was found that the visitors are also satisfied with the signages and visitor assistance, complimentary services, and accommodation on the site. Statistical tests showed significant mean differences in the visitors’ satisfaction levels when grouped according to their profiles. It was found that the visitor-respondents have a sense of place attachment to the heritage site in terms of aesthetics, education and memory, place dependence, and place identity. These are further explained through the cognitive and emotional elements they get through the experiences gained in visiting the memorable site. In all circumstances, this present study provided more insights and understanding of the initiatives of the Intramuros Administration relevant to the influx of visitors.
