Abstract:

Teaching strategies varies upon the learners and should be given importance for it gives the students the means to learn efficiently, as well as the teachers who will handle variety of students who learns differently. There are various ways to teach the students and this gives us the freedom to use, modify, adjust and also create a new teaching strategies best fit to the learners.

In Upper Bicutan National High School, MAPEH teachers use a variety of teaching strategies. In lieu with this, the researcher creates a proposed localized-learning approach which could be used in teaching Music and Arts differentiated learning environment. The researcher came up with this idea and proposed a thesis entitled “The Use of VARK Learning Style on Teaching Grade 8 Music and Arts in Upper Bicutan National High School: Basis for a Proposed Localized-Learning Approach”

The study aimed to investigate the use of VARK Learning Style on the academic performance in Music and Arts of selected grade 8 students in UBNHS. The researcher used Quasi-Experimental Model as the research design. On this case, the researcher created treatment group as “experimental group” and comparison group as “controlled group”. Pre-test and Post-test will be used to gather necessary data for the statistical analysis of research problem and to determine the effectiveness of teaching using VARK Learning style on students’ academic achievement and knowledge retention in Music and Arts. Moreover, the researcher ask some students, teachers, master teachers, principal, and supervisor to participate in a series of interview and focus group discussion.

The proposed output of this study is a Localized Learning Approach anchored in VARK that will suit the needs of the learners.
