THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRE-COMPETITION ANXIETY AND ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION OF HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS SPECIALTY STUDENTS IN ZHEJIANG PROVINCE, CHINA

Abstract:

This research used a descriptive research design and focused on the Pre-competition anxiety status of high school athletic students and the relationship between Pre-competition anxiety and achievement motivation. In this study, the researcher had researched 154 sports specialty students from three representative high schools in Zhejiang Province. In order to assess the subjects of this study, the research used Frequency counts and percentages to analyze the student respondents’ gender, grade level, and their years of training, used Weighted mean to analyze student respondents’ self-assessment of Pre-competition anxiety and achievement motivation, used t-test and ANOVA to use determine if there is a significant difference in student respondents’ assessment of Pre-competition anxiety when gender and grade and training years are factors, use Pearson correlation analysis to determine a significant relationship between pre-competition anxiety and achievement motivation. Ultimately, the researcher comes to a conclusion: the pre-competition anxiety level of the surveyed students is above the average level, but not high level. The students respondents have a higher level of fear of failure motivation; and the level of achievement motivation is at the medium level, but not at the high level. Pre competition anxiety has significant differences in gender, grade and training years, but the state self-confidence has no significant differences in training years. There is a significant positive correlation between pre-competition anxiety and achievement motivation.
