Abstract:

Smart cities refer to the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in planning, implementation, and monitoring of operational functions in cities to better the lives of the people. In the Philippines, Makati City is regarded as one of the most advance cities in terms of disaster preparedness with the aid of ICT. In fact, it is expected to be the first smart city in the country. In this paper, the researchers investigated the involvement of the Makatizen-respondents in urban tourism planning from a smart city perspective. Accordingly, it was found that the respondents are moderately aware with the urban tourism planning in the city in terms of five independent variables. Further, statistical analyses suggested that regardless of the profile of the respondents, they all agree with the indicators that measure their level of smart city perspective. Moreover, significant tests of difference and correlation were done to see the relationship of the independent variables to the respondents’ level of involvement and level of smart city perspective. Finally, a multiple regression analysis was performed to predict the impact of these independent variables to their level of smart city perspective. In all circumstances, the present study gives insights about the preparedness of Makati City to becoming a smart city and how the Makatizens are aware with the city’s ICT-related initiatives.
