AN ASSESSMENT ON THE BUSINESS PERFORMANCE OF TROPICAL HUT FOOD MARKET

Abstract:

Since the 1960s Tropical Hut is a remarkable fast-food chain in the Philippines and one of the oldest classic fast-food chains, older than Jollibee. Being a historic quick service restaurant, improving and assessing its business performance is vital. The financial and non-financial measurement is important to identify the problem and possible solution of Tropical Hut. This study used primary data from the Audited Financial Statements from Security and Exchange Commission and secondary data from related internet sources/data to determine the company’s performance from 2016-2020. The findings and analysis of this study were determined through horizontal and vertical analysis, SWOT analysis, and Porter’s Five Forces. Based on the data gathered, the Tropical Hut unable to adapt to the changing environment and operates with losses. Thus, it is concluded that the assessment of business performance in terms of financial and non-financial through the formulation of a Balance Scorecard is much needed.
