Critical Discourse on Jose P. Laurel’s Philosophy and Legacy

In preparation for the 73rd founding anniversary and its ongoing commitment to preserving institutional legacy, a scholarly roundtable discussion examining the enduring relevance of Jose P. Laurel’s philosophical works and principles was held on October 21, 2024, at the Academic Resource Center. Eminent Philippine historian and former LPU faculty member Dr. Antonio C. Hila and faculty researcher Ms. Ma. Rita Lourdes A. Alfaro led the intellectual discourse, which brought together faculty members and researchers from across disciplines. The event was collaboratively organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Legal Management of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and the Research and Innovation Center (RIC).

The discussion explored how Jose P. Laurel’s philosophical foundations and intellectual contributions continue to illuminate contemporary Philippine challenges and shape youth identity formation. This initiative aims to produce eight comprehensive discussion papers for compilation into a scholarly monograph and to develop enhanced pedagogical materials for JPL courses. These outcomes will serve as valuable resources for both academic instruction and research, thereby strengthening the institution’s mission to preserve Jose P. Laurel’s intellectual legacy while fostering critical dialogue on Philippine nation-building and development.
