Today, we commemorate the 106th birth anniversary of Dr. Sotero H. Laurel, former university president and president pro tempore of the Senate. Dr. Laurel was a prominent Filipino politician and educator who served as a Senator from 1987 to 1992.It was Dr. Laurel who served as the president of LPU after the demise of his father, Jose P. Laurel, and nurtured the school—growing it beyond Manila into the provinces. It was in 1966 when he founded the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, followed by the Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna in 2000.To honor his accomplishments, September 27 is celebrated as Family Day for the whole LPU system.
