Treevolution of Youth: Painting the Town Green
On April 27, 2024, the SDG 13 Student Ambassador of LPU Manila, Ms. Danica Elaine Villa, implemented the SDG 13 Project entitled; “Treevolution of Youth” in Angono, Rizal. This project was partnered with Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan ng Angono, Sangguniang Kabataan ng Brgy. Sto. Nino, Sangguniang Kabataan ng San Roque, Sangguniang Kabataan ng San Isidro, Sangguniang Kabataan ng Kalayaan, Sangguniang Kabataan ng Poblacion Itaas, Sangguniang Kabataan ng San Vicente, Sangguniang Kabataan ng San Pedro, Sangguniang Kabataan ng Mahabang Parang, Sangguniang Kabataan ng Bagumbayan, Climate Change Commission, Angono Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), and Angono Rizal Municipal. This was also sponsored by Piato PH, Dizzy Ditch Gaming, and PATA PH LPU Manila Student Chapter.
Inspired by the town of Angono’s commitment to the “Zero Basura” initiative, which has seen widespread local cooperation on environmental projects, the SDG 13 Ambassador envisioned a partnership that would harness this community spirit towards broader sustainability efforts. Recognizing Angono’s reputation as the Art Capital of the Philippines, the Ambassador themed the project “Paint the Town Green.” This theme not only highlights the environmental goals of the project but also ties in the town’s artistic identity, aiming to blend ecological awareness with cultural expression.
To set the stage for a successful implementation, the Ambassador proactively coordinated meetings with key local figures. This included discussions with the Municipal Mayor, the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office, the Municipal Agriculture Office for seedling distribution, and the Federation of Sangguniang Kabataan ng Angono. These meetings ensured that all parties were aligned with the project’s objectives and facilitated the integration of local resources and expertise vital for the project’s success. The project commenced with a comprehensive orientation for all volunteers, providing them with a clear understanding of the day’s agenda and their roles. Following the orientation, the volunteers began the tree planting activity, contributing to the reforestation efforts and beautification of Angono Lakeside Park. The day continued with a seminar featuring a guest speaker from the Climate Change Commission, who provided valuable insights into global and local climate action strategies.
