ResilientSeas: Marine Life Matters
Last June 29, 2024, the SDG 14 Life Below Water Ambassador of LPU Manila, Ms. Jazmine Bangate, implemented the SDG 14 Project entitled; “ResilientSeas” in Mabini Batangas. This project was partnered with Plastic Palit Bigas San Teodoro, Bughaw Freedive Club, Lyceum of the Philippines University UNICEF Volunteers, and Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila College of Business Administration Student Government. This was also sponsored by El Gateaux and D&D Unli Sweettness.
ResilientSeas: Marine Life Matters was an environmental initiative aimed at combating marine debris, protecting marine life, and promoting ocean conservation. It involved coastal cleanups, freediving activities, and educational programs for children. The project’s success was attributed to careful planning, and collaboration with organizations, local governments, and volunteers. The children’s program was particularly effective in raising environmental awareness. The initiative relied on a dedicated team of sponsors, partners, and volunteers. Overall, the ResilientSeas: Marine Life Matters project effectively addressed these challenges through proactive planning, resourceful solutions, and unwavering commitment from its dedicated team.
Moreover, the project includes activities such as Seminar about Marine Conservation, Coastal Clean-up, Freediving, and Children Activities. This project also addressed different SDG 14 targets such as, SDG 14.1 – Reduce marine pollution by preventing, significantly reducing and eliminating all forms of pollution, particularly from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution, SDG 14.2 – Manage and sustainably use marine and coastal resources for sustainable development, and SDG 14.7 – Increase marine scientific cooperation at all levels, to improve understanding of marine biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and to support the implementation of international law as reflected in UNCLOS, as well as national legislation, for the conservation and sustainable use of the oceans and their resources.
