Green Sprout Society: Cultivating Sustainable Future With Youth Gardening and Stray Cats and Dogs Feeding
On June 22, 2024, the SDG 15 Life on Land Student Ambassador of LPU Manila, Ms. Coleen Pantua, implemented the SDG 15 Project entitled; “Green Sprout Society” in Pandacan, Manila.
This project was partnered with LPU Manila Tourism Students Association, United Leaders of the Philippines, Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy. 857, Zone 93, and Barangay 857, Zone 93 Council. This project was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry, D&D Unli Sweetness, Alliance of Resilient Youth Advocate Philippines, Ms. Lhindsay Ramos, and Fr.ankrine Solano.
This project promises a profound impact on its beneficiaries, primarily youth participants from Barangay 857, Zone 93 in Manila, and dedicated volunteers. By organizing mini seminars on basic gardening techniques, the project equips youth with essential skills to cultivate green spaces and establish a community pantry. This initiative not only promotes self- sufficiency and healthy eating habits but also fosters a sense of environmental responsibility among the youth, encouraging them to become future advocates for sustainable living practices. Additionally, through storytelling sessions led by volunteers on the proper treatment of animals, participants develop empathy and awareness towards animal welfare issues, instilling values of compassion and respect.
Furthermore, the project includes activities such as feeding stray cats and dogs and organizing clean-up drives within the community. These efforts not only improve the living conditions for animals but also enhance the overall cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of Barangay 857. Through collaborative volunteer efforts, the project builds a sense of community pride and unity among participants and volunteers alike, fostering a sustainable environment where both humans and animals can thrive harmoniously. Together, these activities of the “Green Sprout Society” project aim to create a lasting impact by nurturing responsible citizens who are actively engaged in environmental conservation and community welfare.
