This paper is aimed to describe the profile of the teachers in terms of sex, age, job title, academic qualification, teaching years and students major ship (English major and non-English major); determine teacher efficacy, grammar teaching strategies and attitudes of ESL teachers; test the differences in responses on the three variables when grouped according to profile variables; establish relationship among teacher efficacy, grammar teaching strategies, and attitudes, and propose the GTS-TE model of training and grammar teaching. Four hundred and fifty-nine (459) teacher respondents from ten universities in Zhengzhou Henan province participated in the questionnaires. The findings revealed that teacher respondents were often efficacious in teacher efficacy and they usually used effective grammar teaching strategies and showed positive attitudes, but there was no significant difference on teacher profiles for grammar teaching strategies. The results also showed that the better teacher efficacy, the better grammar teaching strategies and vice versa.

The researcher recommended that private undergraduate universities in Zhengzhou, Henan should focus on recruiting more highly qualified academic staff or cultivate self-owned teachers to further improve the quality of education.

Teacher training courses could be designed to follow GTS-TSE model to enhance teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs in grammar teaching, by providing them with more opportunities to practice and feel confident in implementing effective grammar teaching strategies. And English teachers may adopt the GTS-TE model to improve and continuously enhance the grammar teaching ability and be evaluated thereafter.
