OUR VERY OWN: Webinar on the Indigenous People of the Philippines
“Indigenous people made huge contributions to this country. The biggest is in sharing the land and resources. People need to see that, understand that. Indigenous people should be viewed as the founding peoples of this land.” – Perry Bellegarde
In support of the above statement along with the ever-growing demand to protect, promote and recognize the identity and rights of the Indigenous Peoples (IPs), the Commission of Higher Education mandates the inclusion of the indigenous peoples’ studies in the general curriculum wherein the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila (LPU-Manila) is one of the main proponents of this historic and academic endeavor.
The College of Arts and Sciences in LPU-Manila together with our partner organizations (IA Esperanza Gatbonton Center for Intramuros Studies, the Human Rights Violations Victims’ Memorial Commission, and the National Commission for Indigenous Peoples) invites you to this webinar entitled “Our Very Own: Webinar on the Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines” this coming November 26, 2022 (Saturday) at 1:00-5:00 pm via Zoom and Facebook Live. This webinar will discuss the latest academic developments relevant to the recognition of indigenous peoples (IP) in the Philippines. By doing so, the discussion will contribute not only towards the development of research on IPs, but also directs to the greater advocacy of giving IPs a voice.
