On September 8 and October 23, 2023, the College of International Relations (CIR) together with the Foreign Service Club (FSC) held its Diplomat’s Talk Series 2023, which aims to hone the students to become future diplomats and reinforce their learning, held at the JPL Hall of Freedom, Lyceum of the Philippines University.

The Philippine-Australia Relations and the Role of a Lady Ambassador

Last September, the Philippine Ambassador to Australia, Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega visited the Lyceum of the Philippine University (LPU) and discussed the Philippine – Australia Relations and the role and remit of being a lady Ambassador.

During the event, students had the opportunity to gain knowledge about the benefits of the Philippine and Australia relations and how it has positively impacted Filipinos abroad. Additionally, the audience gained valuable insights into the challenges and realities faced by a Philippine Ambassador, through the personal experiences shared by Ambassador De La Vega. She also emphasized the importance of accountability for diplomats, highlighting the need to take responsibility for their actions and accept the consequences, regardless of the circumstances.

PH-US Relations and Experiences in the United Nations

In October, Honorable Patrick A. Chuasoto, the Assistant Secretary for Policy Planning and Coordination from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) shared his insights and knowledge about the PH-US relations and experiences in the United Nations (UN). He expressed delight in being able to share his insights and knowledge, highlighting his role as an alternate representative in the UN Security Council and being the first and only Filipino to serve as Chairman on the Committee on Conferences.

During the event, the speaker discussed the two countries’ shared historical and cultural connection and strong partnership and alliance.

The CIR and FSC is looking forward to more projects and programs just like the Diplomat’s Talk Series that would reinforce the learning of the students in the future.
