RIC attends ITSO General Assembly
The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), in cooperation with the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU), invited Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) to the ITSO General Assembly on July 3-4, 2018 at the Southview Hotel, Dumaguete City. The ITSO General Assembly is an annual gathering of ITSO members mandated under Chapter 5 of the ITSO Franchise Operations Manual, which aims to update the ITSO universities of the current developments and status of the ITSO project, discuss plans and programs to move the ITSO member institutions as catalysts in fostering innovation as well as share best practices in operating ITSOs, promoting research activities, ensuring the quality of research and confer about issues and concerns related to the operation of the ITSOs. LPU representatives - Dr. Victorina H. Zosa, ITSO Manager, Dr. Samuel Chua, ITSO Technical Expert, Dean of the College of Technology and Ms. Joanna Juvyjoy Rojo, ITSO Administrative Assistant attended the ITSO General Assembly.
The opening ceremony was led by Prof. Roche Cabanlit, the ITSO Manager of NORSU. Dr. Joel P. Limson, the President of NORSU, delivered the Welcome Remarks, after which Atty. Josephine R. Santiago, the Director General of the IPOPHL, gave a presentation on “The Philippines towards Fourth Industrial Revolution.” Dir. Eric T. Lanado, Asst. Director, FMAS, IPOPHL discussed the role of ITSOs in fostering Innovation and Invention in the Country and the operations status of ITSO from 2010-2017. Engr. Virginia Aumentado, IPRS V, and Engr. Ma. Winelma Garcia, IPRS II, Search & Documentation Division, DITTB, IPOPHL gave a talk on Patent Landscape Reports and what it means to the ITSOs. Representatives from Capiz State University, Adamson University, University of the Philippines Los Baños gave tips on the sharing of best practices towards members.
Member institutions were then clustered to work on future activities and innovations for the organization. LPU was among the Marketing Cluster, along with Angeles University Foundation, Laguna State Polytechnic University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the Philippines Los Baños, University of Antique, University of Mindanao, and DOST-NCR. The cluster/group came up with various marketing plans for scientists and researchers, IP generators and IP users. Dr. Victorina H. Zosa represented the cluster/group. Atty. Santiago led the closing remarks for the second day.
