SHS serves with love to the Ayta Community

Heeding the call of charity, the Senior High School Department, Cerberus Sports Club (CSC), League of Outreach Volunteers and Engaged Students (LOVES), together with the Community Outreach and Service Learning (COSeL), in partnership with the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), conducted the annual SHS outreach program last January 25 and 26, 2020 in Brgy. Maguisguis, Botolan, Zambales. The event was titled CERB with LOVE: Annual Outreach Activity and Basketball Clinic themed “Sports Education Towards Sustainable and Inclusive Education."
Sitio Kayanga was the first destination of the department wherein the community immersion took place. This meant fully experiencing the lifestyle and everyday living of the families. After the immersion, the teams joined back together and shared their experiences, insights and lessons they have learned with one another. Finally, led by COSeL and LOVES, the Ayta children received bags and school supplies to be used in their first grade of elementary school.
The second day began with an energetic zumba exercise followed by the CSC and IBF basketball clinic training program. Coach Henri Batanaye of IBF taught Ayta children the fundamental skills and techniques in playing basketball. To wrap up the culmination, the principal of Maguisguis Integrated School gave her remarks extending her gratitude towards the participants, student-leaders and faculty for the time and effort they exerted. After a few words from COT, represented by Engr. Mark Melegrito, Ms. Clarence Ella D. Alipio (LPU-SHS Principal), Doc. Marilyn L. Ngales (Director of COSeL) and the presidents of CSC and LOVES, the SHS students led the distribution of foods and supplies to the Aytas that marked the end of the outreach program.
The outreach activity was successful not only in its goal of helping the Ayta community through donations, but also in instilling the value of social responsibility and the spirit of volunteerism in the teachers and students who participated in the program. Ever taking the lead in promoting charity among its stakeholders, LPU was once again able to fulfill one of its mission by supporting a sustainable community extension program and be a catalyst for social transformation and be a custodian of Filipino culture and heritage and also manifest its core values, nationalism and leadership.
