LPU Academic Visit in Taiwan
Committed to the LPU’s first mission, which is to advance and preserve knowledge by undertaking research, disseminating, and utilizing its results (RESEARCH), the Research and Innovation Center (RIC) spearheaded the LPU Academic Visit from July 17 to 20, 2018.
The visit aims to understand the processes of strategy formulation and implementation; to gain information and data about LPU and other Taiwan universities to support decision making; to identify areas for improvement and set targets for institutional developments and to collaborate on research proposals/projects.
Representing LPU were were Dr. Victorina H. Zosa, RIC Executive Director; Ms. Joanna Juvyjoy Rojo and Ms. Michelle Lei Victorino, RIC Senior Researchers; Mr. Glenn Niño Sartillo, Chairperson of the College of International Relations; Dir. Corazon Nera, Director of the Sotero H. Laurel Academic Resource Center and Dr. Samuel Chua, Dean of the College of Technology and Director of Physical Plant and Facilities Management.
Led by Dr. Tim Eing Ming Wu – Chair Professor of Shu-Te University and his student assistant Jane, LPU representatives roamed the beautiful city of Kaohsiung, after which they visited Cheng-Shiu University and conversed with Wu-Te Ko - Vice Dean, Office of International Affairs. In the afternoon, they visited Shu-Te University and negotiated with Ya-Yu Chen – Division Section Director, Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs; Lu Yuan-Hua – Dean, College of Design, and Yi-Huei Hou – Laboratory of Space Genetics. They came up with various research topics that they want to collaborate on.
The following day, the group went to Tainan to visit the CTBC Financial Management College. Along with Hooy Chee Wooi – Associate Professor and Deputy Dean, Research, Postgraduate & Networking of Universiti Sains Malaysia, Dr. Zosa and Dr. Chua engaged with possible research outcomes through the promised efforts of CTBC. Chin-Che Cheng S.J.D. – Dean, Office of Academic Affairs, Director/Associate Professor – Department of Business and Economic Law, and Wen-Cheng Hu – Dean, Office of Research & Development, Assistant Professor, Department of Banking and Finance stated their commitment towards their research endeavors.
The Academic Visit encouraged discovery of new ideas through a strategic look (inside the Taiwan Universities and LPU). It also strengthened institutional identity, strategy formulation and implementation. Furthermore, it enhanced the reputation of LPU in the research circle and may possibly set new standards for LPU and the Southern Taiwan Universities Alliance.
