2018 STEAM International Conference and Collaborative Workshop

The Research and Innovation Center (RIC) in collaboration with the Arts and Cultural Affairs Department (ACAD) tied up Australian research scholars for the 2018 STEAM International Conference and Collaborative Workshop with the theme, ‘Fostering STEAM education through intercultural creativity: Possibilities, challenges, partnerships.’ The proposed public seminars, to be held in Manila and Melbourne, aim to examine how countries can foster creativity in their education systems, recognizing values based strengths and differences in diverse approaches across the ASEAN region and beyond. The Manila leg was held at the JPL Hall of Freedom on March 15-16, 2018.

On the first day (March 15, 2018) the conference yielded various researchers that highlighted their presentations on ‘Cross Cultural Arts Education in Southeast Asia & Pacific, International Concerns in Arts, Culture & Technology in the Region.’

On the second day (March 16, 2018) Anne Harris, an Associate Professor and Vice Chancellor’s Principal Research Fellow at RMIT University and Stacy Holman Jones, a Professor in the Centre for Theatre and Performance at Monash University conducted a performance workshop which utilized play and improve to explore the creative side of science and math’s content. Peter Cook, a Lecturer in The Arts at Southern Cross University led a dance composition workshop to the understanding of STEAM. Kathryn Coleman, an artist, research and teacher in Visual Arts and Design at the University of Melbourne directed a creative workshop for exploring a transdisciplinary inquiry through STEAM.
