In June 2001, Lyceum of the Philippines decided to put up the College of Computer Studies (CCS) to cater to a rapidly increasing demand for IT Professionals. During the previous five (5) years in which it was offered, the BS Computer Science Program was under the administration of the College of Engineering (COE).When Lyceum decided to offer other Information Technology courses, the new College was established. By adding at least three new courses related to the Information Technology industry, Lyceum separated the Computer Science students from COE to set up the College of Computer Studies (CCS).
The previous Deans of the CCS were Mr. Julianito G. Bucayan, Jr. (2001 – 2002), Mr. Vincente V. Pijano III (2003-2004), Mr. John Peter Abraham Q. Ruero (2005-2007), Dr. Samuel S. Chua (2008-2013), Ms. Corazon D. Adriano, OIC (2013-2014) and Mr. Rejan L. Tadeo, OIC (2014 - present).
The College of Engineering started in June 1978 with only 442 freshmen students . It had a full-time dean, Engr. Magleo Adriano who died before his term ends. Engr. Manuel C. Remulla assumed the position as acting dean on February 1979. Dean Remulla initiated the construction of a Mechanical Shop building , which housed the carpentry and foundry shops. However, he accepted an overseas employment offer, thus the position was vacant. To fill the gap vacated by Engr. Remulla , Engr. Ernesto A. Eleria joined Lyceum on a part-time basis. During his time, Dean Eleria worked on the construction of another laboratory in Paco, Manila and purchased additional laboratory equipment.
After sometime, Dean Eleria decided to leave the College for some other reasons. An officer-in-charge in the person of Engr. Julieta A Araño manned the College after the resignation of Dean Eleria, Engr. Araño worked on the revision of the Engineering curricula based on the existing MECS guidelines. The Engineering laboratory building was constructed under the term of Engr. Arano. She also worked on the acquisition of more books and laboratory equipment for engineering students, and the improvement of the laboratory facilities.
Other Deans who served the College were Engr. Pektut-Uy and Engr. Francisco Galema. Engr. Uy, was instrumental in the improvement of the faculty room. New lockers were provided to faculty members. He also improved the facilities of the engineering laboratories. Engr. Galema assumed the position as Officer-in-Charge after the term of Engr. Uy. The faculty members formulated syllabus of subjects they were teaching. The curriculum was also updated.
Dr. Visitacion Crisostomo took over the College. Under the term of Dr. Crisostomo, Computer courses were introduced into the Engineering curriculum and the AutoCAD laboratory was established for Engineering courses and AutoCAD subject was added as substitute for Engineering Drawing 2. Some changes were made in the curriculum, Marine Engineering was proposed but it did not materialize.
After the term of Dean Crisostomo, the College was run by Engr. Adoracion Bacani as Officer-in-charge. She implemented school policies that helped improve the College. After Engr. Bacani, a new Dean was appointed in the person of Mr. Julianito Bucayan. Mr. Julianito Bucayan an MS Computer graduate held the position as Acting Dean in the College of Engineering and at the same time Director of MIS from year 2000 to 2001. He improved the curriculum of Computer Engineering and eventually he was an instrument in separating Computer studies for College of Engineering as an independent College now known as College of Computer Studies and has offered additional courses (BSIM, BSIT).He has also established partnership with the following: Sun Microsystems (making Lyceum of the Philippines the first ASEC-Academic Initiative in the Country), IBM and 3COM. The aforementioned resulted in the incorporation of industry standard training materials into Lyceum’s academic program.
Under the present set up, the college has produced two (2) board topnotchers. Many faculty members were sent to seminars and workshops. New laboratories, Matrix laboratory (MATLAB), Simulation Laboratory and AUTOCAD 2008 were put up. Additional apparatus for the Physics, Chemistry and ECE laboratories were purchased. Syllabi and curricula were updated. Accreditation of engineering programs (CpE, ECE, EE, ME and IE) started in 2006.
