Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila Participates in the Summer School Program Hosted by the National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan
LPU-Manila students have embarked on a journey that extends far beyond the classroom corners during the Summer School Program hosted by the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) last July 30 to August 8, 2024. On its second-year run of the Summer program, NUK has invited its partner institutions to join and collectively learn and immerse in the culture of Taiwan. Student participants would come from NUK’s partner schools from five countries namely, Japan, India, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Highlighted during the Summer School Program are the lectures on International Studies and Sustainability, Climate Change Governance and Policy and Mandarin Learning facilitated by the dynamic roster of NUK faculties and a guest lecturer from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. These series of lectures addressed the promotion of cultural sensitivity, probing how the natural, social, economic systems interact and impact sustainability. The lecture series also promotes the understanding of climate change and its impact on environmental governance and sustainability outcomes.
For cultural immersion, the rich history and scenic sights of Southern Taiwan were showcased during the tour visit in the Meinong Folk Village with Hakka Culture experience, the historical museum tours in Tainan and the Kenting National Park. These tours have allowed the students to appreciate the complexity of historical events and the diversity of human experiences.
The 10-day Summer School Program offers an unparalleled opportunity for academic sharing and innovation, lasting friendships while enjoying the vibrant energy of an international community. Whether through immersive classes, hands-on projects or going on cultural tours, this program aims to challenge and inspire participants for global inclusivity.
